Chloé Zhao, prima regizoare necaucaziană premiată cu Oscarul pentru Cea mai bună regie

După o dublă nominalizare istorică la categoriile Cel mai bun documentar de lungmetraj şi Cel mai bun film internaţional, filmul românesc colectiv, în regia lui Alexander Nanau, a pierdut ambele statuete în favoarea unor titluri mult mai prietenoase cu publicul, My Octopus Teacher şi Another Round.

Ediţia de anul acesta a Oscarurilor vine cu o victorie istorică pentru regizoarea de origine chineză Chloé Zhao: este doar a doua regizoare laureată cu Oscarul pentru Cea mai bună regie (după Kathryn Bigelow pentru The Hurt Locker în 2009) şi prima regizoare necaucaziană care reuşeşte această performanţă. Reamintim că, după o serie de filme independente, Zhao a fost aleasă de studiourile Marvel să regizeze The Eternals, megablockbuster din Universul Cinematografic Marvel.

Probabil că cel mai surprinzător trofeu al serii este cel primit de Anthony Hopkins pentru rolul principal din drama The Father. Favoritul absolut al categoriei Cel mai bun actor în rol principal era Chadwick Boseman, care ar fi putut primi un Oscar postum pentru Ma Raney's Black Bottom după ce a murit de cancer la vârsta de 43 de ani.
