Russell Boyd s-a născut la data de 21.04.1944, în Victoria, Australia. A rămas cunoscut pentru munca sa ca director de imagine la filme, precum: Picnic at Hanging - 1975, Gallipoli - 1981, Operațiunea Dumbo - 1995, Serenades - 2001, American Outlaws - 2001, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003, a primit premiul Oscar la categoria Cea mai bună imagine, în 2004), The Way Back - 2010. Membru al Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) din 1975 și al American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) din 2004.
