- Ecranizare a piesei de teatru omonime de mare succes a lui Joseph Kesselrin și având în distribuție majoritatea actorilor din piesă (o excepție notabilă fiind Boris Karloff) filmul ne prezintă două bătrânele dulci, surorile Brewster, care ucid burlaci servindu-le vin cu arsenic. Mortimer, nepotul preferat al bătrânelor doamne și proaspăt însurat cu încântătoarea Elaine, află despre sinistrele lor activități și despre ale altor doi membri ai familiei, trăsătura comună fiind nebunia. Fratele lui mai mare, Jonathan, tocmai a evadat din pușcărie și e stupefiat să…
