- Într-un sat din comitatul Mayo din districtul Cong, în secolul al XIX-lea, un moșier egoist, cpt. Charles C. Boycott îi deposedează pe localnici de proprietățile ce le dețin și îi lasă fără nicio speranță. Dar când Hugh Davin, un fermier pasionat, cu sprijinul moral al preotului local, părintele McKeogh, organizează o rebeliune, evitând violența și adoptând o formă de rezistență pasivă... și se îndrăgostește de Anne Killain, o frumoasă nou-venită... el demonstrează că poporul irlandez este dispus și hotărât să lupte pentru drepturile lor.
