Felix Ungar tocmai s-a despărțit de soția sa. El vrea să se sinucidă, dar este salvat de prietenul său, Oscar Madison. Pentru că nu are unde să se ducă, Felix este convins de Oscar să se mute împreună, cel puțin pentru o vreme.
