The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds, England. The events both happen on the bank holiday weekend in August (on Friday, Saturday, Sunday), and share the same bill (occasionally with one or two exceptions). The festival's origins date to the Beaulieu Jazz Festival (1956–1961) which became the National Jazz Festival in 1961 (The National Jazz and Blues Festival in 1963) and settled in Reading in 1971. Sting was born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner in Wallsend, a ship building town near Newcastle After a family friend left him a Spanish guitar Sting became obsessed with music. He spent his youth visiting jazz clubs in nearby Newcastle, where he saw the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Cream. In 1977 Sting moved to London to pursue music with his band Last Exit. At one of the city’s jazz clubs he met drummer Stewart Copeland. Although starting out as a punk band, The Police showed a wide range of influences. By their fifth album, The Police were the biggest band in the world and although Synchronicity has sold 8 million copies the US alone the trio decided to go on hiatus. In 1985 Sting released his debut solo album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles. An artist with intellectual skills is John Legend, who studied English with a major in African American literature at the University of Pennsylvania. In college, he participated in a jazz group called Counterparts and at the time was introduced to singer Lauryn Hill, playing piano on the track 'Everything Is Everything' from the singer's first solo album. He finished college in 1999 and began composing his own songs; Recorded two independent albums that were sold in their performances: 'John Stephens' (2000) and 'Live at Jimmy Uptown' (2001). He has performed on albums of singers like Alicia Key, Jay-Z and also made the album Wake Up! (2010) along with the American rap group, The Roots. His official discography includes Get Lifted (2004), Once Again (2006), Evolver (2008) and Love in the Future (2013). This presentation in London, 2014, at the Itunes Festival, manages to clean the career of this singer who besides being multitalented can be a human rights activist.

Jackson made his professional debut in 1964 as a member of The Jackson 5, soon becoming a dominant figure in popular music. His music videos, “Beat It", “Billie Jean", and “Thriller" are credited with breaking racism in the USA and transforming the medium into an art form. Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. Jackson was the most awarded recording artist in the history of popular music. Aspects of Jackson's personal life generated controversy and while preparing for his comeback concert series, This Is It, Jackson died of acute Propofol and Benzodiazepine intoxication on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Coroner ruled his death a homicide, and his personal physician, Conrad Murray.

Buddy Holly was a central figure of late 1950s, with hits, That’ll be the Day, Everyday & Peggy Sue. Holly made his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in January 1958 and soon after, toured Australia and the UK. In early 1959, he assembled a new band and embarked on a tour of the midwestern U.S. After a show in Clear Lake, Iowa, he chartered an airplane to travel to his next show, in Moorhead, Minnesota. Soon after take-off, the plane crashed, killing him, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper, in a tragedy later referred to by Don McLean as The Day the Music Died".
