'Broken' was a turning point for the sound of Nine Inch Nails. It was also the point when Reznor founded Nothing Records to step away from his deal with label TVT. Nine Inch Nails had entered the mainstream with the success of the album, 'The Downward Spiral'. But it would be five years before singer Trent Reznor would release his next record, 'The Fragile' in 1999.
