The Strokes - Live at Landmark Music Festival
The StrokesAnd as with other hugely successful rock bands, it was the lead singer who was in charge of pumping up the crowd, with Julian Casablancas yelling things like “D.C., let’s rock!” and “What’s up, D.C.?!” The crowd went wild, but to Casablancas, it was clearly a joke. He was playing a role and said as much outright at the beginning of the show, but that didn’t stop the crowd, hungry for more entertainment, from taking him seriously. -

ABBA - Rock Legends
ABBAAbba are one of Sweden’s biggest exports and the world’s biggest pop act. With sales estimated at 400 million, as a group they are second only the Beatles. However, the pop music that will be remembered for generations to come grew out of a very different sound. Abba entered the Eurovision heats. They succeeded and performed the song Waterloo in the 1974 contest. The band entered superstar status with the 1976 release of their first greatest hits. The token new song on the record was Fernando. It remains Abba’s biggest-selling single to date, with sales of 10 million copies. The late 1970s was a period of unstoppable success for Abba. The 1976 album Arrival, showcased the finely-honed skill of pop song-writing and its lead single, Dancing Queen, was a prime example of that. Featuring archive material, music videos “DANCING QUEEN” “MAMA MIA ABBA” and, exclusive insights from music critics and journalists JOHN AIZLEWOOD (Evening Standard), DANIELLE PERRY (XFM), WILL HODGKINSON (The Times) & CAMILLA PIA (BBC Radio 6) -

David Bowie - Bowie: The Man Who Changed the World
David BowieOnly true legends of rock music are known by one word. As with ‘Elvis’ everyone knows the name of the most creative and influential rock artist of all time: BOWIE. Bowie was in a state of permanent revolution, constantly re-inventing his persona and sound. He defied any label that the music industry tried to place on him. From Thin White Duke to soulful rocker; music, art, fashion and sexuality were Bowie’s playthings - he was truly an artistic chameleon. -

The Doors - Live in Europe
The DoorsWhile the nails were starting to be driven into the hippie generation's coffin, an L.A. band would cast an influence and signal a new movement of musical artistry that would prove to be a hard act to follow. In the late-60's, the Doors would help lead a new musical revolution that would throw a middle finger in the face of society and distance itself from all the turmoil that shaped the political climate by literally creating mass hysteria on their own. This concert, filmed in 1968 during the Band's tour across Europe, include live performances of 'Spanish Caravan', 'Five to One', and two versions of 'Light My Fire'. -

U2 - Classic Album: The Joshua Tree
U2The Joshua Tree was the fastest and highest selling album of 1987, representing a life affirming rebuttal of the synthesizer pop of the preceding years. Rock's DNA of blues, folk, gospel and country were he building blocks of the album, fashioned lyrically and acoustically for the 80's. U2 and their producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois approached the recording of the album as an experiment, using it as an opportunity for each of them to explore their own ideas, musical political and personal. This program story tells the story of that creative collision. -
