06:29 Pulp - Rock LegendsPulpPulp came together as a band in 1980 Sheffield. Early rehearsals took place in singer Jarvis Cocker’s sitting room. Pulp didn’t really hit public consciousness for a long, long time. The first three albums, It, Freaks and Separations and the single My Legendary Girlfriend was a bit of a music press fave. A lot of people raving about that in the NME. After being frustrated at the distribution and reception of their first three albums, Pulp signed to the independent label, Gift. But they were soon taken on by island Records. The interest from the labels came from the new songs they were performing live, notably one which would become their breakthrough track, Babies. The single, Do You Remember The First Time, funnily enough became their first top 40 hit. Building on its success, the band released the album His ‘n’ Hers which entered the UK top 10. Following on from the critical success of His ‘n’ Hers… Pulp would finally explode on to the mainstream with their huge success of their 1995 single, Common People. The song was the lead single from the album Different Class which topped the UK charts and this time would win Pulp the Mercury Music Prize.
