Jeff Kavanda’s group is multicultural and composed of artists from Congo, North Africa, Ghana and Belgium. The dominant style is Afro-Cuban, with influences from music of Central Africa, West Africa, North Africa, reggae and jazz. It is mainly focused on percussion: balafon, congas, djembe, bongos, berimbo, darbouka, tama, n'goma, likembe and dun num. The rhythm of percussion is supported by several other instruments: violin, piano, drums, classical drums, lead guitar, bass guitar and clarinet. The singing is polyphonic and utilizes in its repertoire Lingala, French, Spanish, Edo, Kikongo, Kibunda and Swahili languages. Dancing is also very present throughout their concerts.

Songwriter Alpha Thiam was born in Guinea in a family of the nobility Toucouleure, one of the tribes that form the great family of the Fulani ethnic group in West Africa. Guitarist and composer, Alpha Thiam feeds on a variety of repertoires from Mali, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia and Burkina Faso. He sings in the Peule, Mandingue and Soussou languages. He combines his electric guitar with Nathalie Cora's koras, Cédric Dind-Lavoie's bass and double-bass, and Moses Yawo Matey's percussions (calabash, djembe, cajón).

Matsu Také was created in 2002 and is dedicated to promoting Japanese music. The charismatic Southern Ground-Hornbill is a bird that many people already know well. They are culturally important as the ‘thunder' or 'rain’ birds and are a flagship species for the savannah biome. At present, Southern Ground-Hornbills are considered within South Africa as ‘Endangered', with their numbers outside of formally protected areas still declining. It is likely that the birds will soon meet the IUCN Red Data List Criteria as being ‘Critically Endangered’ in South Africa. It’s estimated that only 1500 Ground-Hornbills are left in South Africa, of which half are safe within the protected areas.
